Ball Screw Mounting Bracket Question

Hello David,
Two years ago, you helped me machine some new ball screw mounting brackets that were made incorrectly. I had purchased these from Heavy Metals CNC just prior to them going out of business. Thanks to you, my machine has been happily making parts for quite some time.

I am about to machine these again just to tweak a few dimensions. These brackets use 15 x 32 x 9 mm angular contact bearings. The drawings indicate a bearing pocket with a diameter of 32.2mm.

For some reason I distinctly remember an email where you mentioned that you machined the bearing pockets to be either .5 or 1 full mm oversized.

Do you recall if you machined these bearing pockets bigger than the 32.2mm indicated on the drawing? I have heard that a slightly looser fitting bearing pocket is more forgiving with respect to balls screw alignment.

Hey!

My record show 32.2 mm for the bearing pocket.

Thanks for checking. Greatly appreciated.

For what it is worth, I am remaking this bracket for two reasons. First for better alignment, second because the the two angular contact bearings are only separated by a section of aluminum that is only 1mm thick. I think this contributes to possible backlash. Dave at Arizona CNC designs his brackets with this section 200/1000 inches thick.

When I am done with this little mystery project… I will report back with my findings.

Thanks… Richard
